Genesis 33:1-5
[1] Now Jacob lifted his eyes and looked, and there, Esau was coming, and with him were four hundred men. So he divided the children among Leah, Rachel, and the two maidservants.
[2] And he put the maidservants and their children in front, Leah and her children behind, and Rachel and Joseph last.
[3] Then he crossed over before them and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.
[4] But Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.
[5] And he lifted his eyes and saw the women and children, and said, “Who are these with you?” So he said, “The children whom God has graciously given your servant.”

MFM Daily Devotional Message Wednesday, 27th May, 2026.
As we celebrate Children's Day all over the world today, it is appropriate to put the spotlight on these precious and blessed gifts from the Lord and thank God, the Giver of all, for them.
The Bible refers to children as a heritage because they are handed to us by our heavenly Father. The Bible describes children in glowing terms, revealing the importance that God attaches to them. Psalm 127:3-5 refers to children as a heritage and a reward from the Lord. It also likens children to arrows in the hand of a mighty man. This is because children, like arrows, have the potential to make a positive impact in the world, achieving great things and bringing joy to their families. Similarly, in Psalm 128:3, children are likened to olive shoots and that symbolises their potential for growth and fruitfulness. To further stress their importance, in Matthew 18:3-4, children are seen as models of humility and innocence and adults are enjoined to approach God with childlike faith. In Mark 10:14-16, Jesus welcomes children, emphasising their value and worth in God's eyes. Jacob called them the blessings that God has graciously given him (Genesis 33:5).
Therefore, parents should see themselves as stewards and purpose partners with God in raising and training their children. God will hold them accountable for how the precious souls He put in their trust and care turn out in life and eternity. Just as arrows are dependent on the archer for direction, guidance and movement, children also depend on their parents for guidance, support and direction in life. Parents must train and prepare their children, teaching them valuable skills, morals and principles to help them succeed in life. Without parental inputs and Godly counsel, many children will not reach their potential, fulfil their destinies or make impact in life.
Dear Christian parent, you must learn and play your biblically-assigned roles in shaping your children's spiritual, moral and emotional development: (1) Instruct them in the way of the Lord by sharing Bible stories with them, teaching them to pray and helping them to develop personal relationship with the Lord (2) Model Christlike behaviour to them (3) Pray and intercede for them (4) Discipline and correct them (5) Help them to discover their purpose in Christ.
Happy children's day!
