[15] “One witness shall not rise against a man concerning any iniquity or any sin that he commits; by the mouth of two or three witnesses the matter shall be established.
[16] If a false witness rises against any man to testify against him of wrongdoing,
[17] then both men in the controversy shall stand before the Lord, before the priests and the judges who serve in those days.
[18] And the judges shall make careful inquiry, and indeed, if the witness is a false witness, who has testified falsely against his brother,
[19] then you shall do to him as he thought to have done to his brother; so you shall put away the evil from among you.
[20] And those who remain shall hear and fear, and hereafter they shall not again commit such evil among you.

MFM Daily Devotional Message Sunday, 13th September, 2026.
A false witness is somebody who tells a lie on oath. This is best understood in the context of a law court. The court would usually give room for people to testify about the case at hand. If somebody is accused of committing a crime, a witness can come forward to testify that the accused indeed committed the crime, or that the accused is innocent. The testimony of a witness can be used to convict a person of crime. The accused is then punished accordingly.
The Bible says that the witness of one person is not sufficient to convict a person; there should be at least two or three witnesses. This is because one person cannot be trusted to say the whole truth without bias. Unfortunately, these days, it is possible to buy whole groups of people with money or reward. There are people who go all out to bribe large groups of people just because they want their enemy punished. There are people who collect gifts and falsely accuse other people. This is an ungodly practice and God will judge everyone who is involved in this the giver as well as the receiver of bribes.
Beloved, as a child of God, nothing beats honesty. Your Christianity should go beyond your church attendance on Sundays; it should reflect in every area of your life. You should not be found bearing false witness, in court or outside court. Don't affirm something you are not sure of and don't collect gifts to testify against innocent people. In your place of work, don't give evil reports about other members of staff simply because you hate them. The Lord hates these things. Anyone who gives false reports or bears false witness will surely be punished by God. The Bible is clear on this: the workers of iniquity will not prosper. As you search your heart and repent from every form of false witnessing, may the Lord also deliver you from false witnesses, in Jesus' name.
