2 Samuel 13:10-21, 28-29
[10] Then Amnon said to Tamar, “Bring the food into the bedroom, that I may eat from your hand.” And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them to Amnon her brother in the bedroom.
[11] Now when she had brought them to him to eat, he took hold of her and said to her, “Come, lie with me, my sister.”
[12] But she answered him, “No, my brother, do not force me, for no such thing should be done in Israel. Do not do this disgraceful thing!
[13] And I, where could I take my shame? And as for you, you would be like one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, please speak to the king; for he will not withhold me from you.”
[14] However, he would not heed her voice; and being stronger than she, he forced her and lay with her.
[15] Then Amnon hated her exceedingly, so that the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, “Arise, be gone!”
[16] So she said to him, “No, indeed! This evil of sending me away is worse than the other that you did to me.” But he would not listen to her.
[17] Then he called his servant who attended him, and said, “Here! Put this woman out, away from me, and bolt the door behind her.”
[18] Now she had on a robe of many colors, for the king’s virgin daughters wore such apparel. And his servant put her out and bolted the door behind her.
[19] Then Tamar put ashes on her head, and tore her robe of many colors that was on her, and laid her hand on her head and went away crying bitterly.
[20] And Absalom her brother said to her, “Has Amnon your brother been with you? But now hold your peace, my sister. He is your brother; do not take this thing to heart.” So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom’s house.
[21] But when King David heard of all these things, he was very angry.
[28] Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, “Watch now, when Amnon’s heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, ‘Strike Amnon!’ then kill him. Do not be afraid. Have I not commanded you? Be courageous and valiant.”
[29] So the servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king’s sons arose, and each one got on his mule and fled.

Today, we will study David as a father, what he did right and what he didn't do right. When the ark of God was brought, David rejoiced greatly before the Lord. After offering sacrifices, he blessed the people. Then, he also came home to bless his family (2 Samuel 6:18,20a). A good father recognises his role as the priest of his home and his duty to constantly pronounce blessings on his family. David did well in this.

When Amnon pretended to be sick, David went to see him. He showed concern here as a father should. However, he was unable to see through Amnon's wicked scheme. While trying to be a good father to Amnon, he failed his daughter, Tamar, by sending her directly into a trap. Amnon eventually raped her. Unfortunately, David got angry but did not do anything about the matter; there was no justice for Tamar from the king so Absalom, her brother, decided to get justice for his sister by killing Amnon. Probably if David had appropriately punished Amnon, Absalom would have been satisfied and would not have seen the need to kill him. Fathers need to learn from this. No child should be favoured above another; no child should be allowed to get away with any act of indiscipline so as to avoid rivalry among siblings.

Absalom tried to take over his father's kingdom. Unfortunately, he lost his life. David lost his first and third sons to poorly managed conflicts. Nothing much is said about Chileab, the son Abigail bore David. The fourth son, Adonijah, decided he was the next king even while his father was yet alive. Thankfully, Prophet Nathan intervened and told Bathsheba what to do. Solomon was anointed king over Israel.

Beloved, God has committed a great responsibility into your hand if you're a parent. You cannot afford to fail in this assignment. If you fail to train your children, you will lose them, to death or to something unpleasant. God will ask you questions on the judgement day. May you answer with joy, not with sadness, in Jesus' name.

MFM Daily Devotional Message Thursday, 30th July, 2026.

David was a man who embodied forgiveness. There are several examples of him showing forgiveness in Scripture. The most popular example of him showing forgiveness is with Saul. Saul actively sought ways of killing David, from throwing a javelin at him in the palace to actually following him and his men into the woods. Yet, when David got the chance to easily kill him, he refused to avenge himself (1 Samuel 24:3-12, 26:9-11). After the death of Saul, Abner continued to fight for the house of Saul until there was a quarrel between him and Ishbosheth. Abner defected to David and David accepted him. Once he came for reconciliation, David forgave him and welcomed him (2 Samuel 3:20).

When Absalom revolted against David, Shimei the son of Gera decided to use the opportunity to revile David (2 Samuel 16:5-10). David refused to allow Abishai or any of his men to attack him. This same Shimei ran to welcome David and seek forgiveness when David was restored (2 Samuel 19:22-23). David chose to forgive at the time and leave his punishment to someone else.

Absalom himself enjoyed the forgiveness of David the king but he misused it. He killed his brother, Amnon, and escaped to another country. David chose to forgive him and bring him back. Instead of enjoying the forgiveness he had received, Absalom committed another grievous offence he attempted to overthrow David. This one was punishable by death but David was still willing to forgive him. He instructed the captains of war to deal gently with Absalom for his sake (2 Samuel 18:5). When David heard of the eventual death of Absalom, he was deeply moved and he mourned for his son (2 Samuel 18:33).

Beloved, we all are beneficiaries of divine forgiveness. As David put it, if God should keep a record of sin, how many of us would stand? Today, ask the Lord to give you a heart of forgiveness just like Christ's.

MFM Daily Devotional Message Wednesday, 29th July, 2026.

Humility is one trait of a true child of God. Anyone who realises how much he or she has been helped by God will know that there's really nothing to be proud of in this world. David understood God as his Source and Sustainer; he exhibited the trait of humility.

After David killed Goliath, he continued serving humbly in Saul's palace, playing music to soothe the king. He did not think service was beneath him. Even when Saul offered him his daughter, he didn't think himself worthy of such an honour. After he succeeded in paying the required bride price for Michal, he still humbled himself despite being the king's son in law (1 Samuel 18:23,30).

While in the wilderness, David sent his men to salute Nabal but he insulted David's men. David was going to fight. However, Abigail met him on the way and entreated him and he listened to her (1 Samuel 25:32-35).

After David ascended the throne, his humility still shone when he was challenged by Nathan for his sin. He was already a king at this time; he could have commanded Nathan to be locked up for building up enough effrontery to confront the king but instead, he humbly repented. He chose not to cover his sin.

When Absalom was banished after killing Amnon, Joab knew that the king's heart longed for him. He sent a woman to speak to David in parables. David, being a wise man, discerned that Joab had sent her. He honoured their request and returned Absalom (2 Samuel 14:1-23).

On many occasions, David displayed humility. He was humble enough to always seek the face of God before going for any battle because he knew God alone could give him victory.

Beloved, herein lies a great lesson for us today. God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. It is therefore not surprising that David enjoyed massive grace from God. Take a cue from David today and learn to live a life of humility.

A prophet is someone who hears the mind of God and relays the divine message to the people. A prophet is also capable of foreseeing the future as the Lord reveals it to him. There were many prophets in ancient Israel. Many of them foretold things to come, whether judgement or victory, depending on the peculiar circumstance.

This amazing character, David, also functioned in the office of a prophet despite not being specifically called to be a prophet. David gave prophecies, especially about the Messiah, in his psalms. It would seem that David's eyes were more open than the eyes of any other king of Israel or Judah. He knew that the Messiah was coming from his lineage and he wrote about it. Psalm 110:1 says, "The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool." He called Jesus Lord rather than son because he had a deep understanding. Jesus Himself referred to this passage of scripture when dealing with the Pharisees (Matthew 22:41-45). Obviously, David received this revelation in the Spirit, not in the flesh. Other Messianic prophecies are found in Psalm 2 which talks about Jesus' divine sonship, Psalm 22 and 69 which foretell His suffering. Other references to the Messiah are found throughout the psalms such as Psalm 16:10 which Peter quoted on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:25-27), Psalm 40:7 which is referenced in Hebrews 10:7-9, Psalm 45:6-7 which is also referenced in Hebrews 1:8-9, and so many others.

David, despite receiving revelations from the Lord, did not despise the ministry of prophets. He had Nathan as his prophet and Gad as his seer, and he received the Lord's instructions from them. No matter your depth in the Lord, one true sign of humility is recognising the grace and gifts of God upon other people and honouring the same. May you be truly humble in the things of the Spirit, in Jesus' name.

MFM Daily Devotional Message Monday, 27th July, 2026.

We will continue with the topic we started three days ago, "The Power of Corporate Prayer." In our Fire Scripture today, we read in the book of Act 5:15-25, how miracles and wonders were happening and multitudes were gathering in Jerusalem to receive healing and also bringing their sick folks to be healed. It was the acts of signs and wonders and miracles, because of the power of corporate prayers. The council got the Apostles arrested and imprisoned, but the angel of God came, set them free and told them to go back into the temple to continue the preaching and the winning of souls for the kingdom.

Dearly beloved, in the morning when the solders came to bring the apostles out of the prison, they were no longer there. Someone told them that the people they were looking for were in the temple, but all the doors were locked and all - vs 25. The power of corporate prayer was very prominent in the book of Acts. There was a great display of the power of God. At another time, where they gathered to pray shook (Acts 4:31). This was their prayer after the lame man by the beautiful gate was healed and they were arrested and later released.

The power of corporate prayer cannot be underestimated. It is packed with the power of united souls, with one accord and with one purpose. God usually pay attention to such prayers. Are you having any challenges? Try and join with the brethren and cry to God in oneness and that challenge will become history. In our programme and services at the MFM headquarters, I have seen cancer of many years disappearing, fibroid evaporating, goiter disappearing, bloated stomach deflating.

This is what happens when people come together in one accord with focus and attention to heaven. God cannot ignore such cry. Join with the saints today and see the hand of God working valiantly in the affairs of your life.

[1] It happened after this that the people of Moab with the people of Ammon, and others with them besides the Ammonites, came to battle against Jehoshaphat.
[2] Then some came and told Jehoshaphat, saying, “A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea, from Syria; and they are in Hazazon Tamar” (which is En Gedi).
[3] And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.
[4] So Judah gathered together to ask help from the Lord; and from all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord.
[5] Then Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord, before the new court,
[6] and said: “O Lord God of our fathers, are You not God in heaven, and do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations, and in Your hand is there not power and might, so that no one is able to withstand You?
[7] Are You not our God, who drove out the inhabitants of this land before Your people Israel, and gave it to the descendants of Abraham Your friend forever?
[8] And they dwell in it, and have built You a sanctuary in it for Your name, saying,
[9] ‘If disaster comes upon us—sword, judgment, pestilence, or famine—we will stand before this temple and in Your presence (for Your name is in this temple), and cry out to You in our affliction, and You will hear and save.’
[10] And now, here are the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir—whom You would not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them and did not destroy them—
[11] here they are, rewarding us by coming to throw us out of Your possession which You have given us to inherit.
[12] O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.”
[20] So they rose early in the morning and went out into the Wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.”
[21] And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the Lord, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying: “Praise the Lord, For His mercy endures forever.”
[22] Now when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated.
[23] For the people of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir to utterly kill and destroy them. And when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another.
[24] So when Judah came to a place overlooking the wilderness, they looked toward the multitude; and there were their dead bodies, fallen on the earth. No one had escaped.

We started reflecting on the power of corporate prayer yesterday, exploring what it means. Today we are looking at another scenario in the Bible where corporate prayer came into play. Three nations came to besiege Judah and the report came to Jehoshaphat. He knew that they were in trouble and the only way out was to cry unto God, the Man of war to come unto their aid. The Bible says, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalms 46:1). They were already in trouble and King Jehoshaphat needed the help of God to overcome the three nations that have come to besiege them. The Bible says that Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. "And Judah gathered themselves together to ask help of the Lord; even out of all the cities of Judah, they came to seek the Lord."

Dearly beloved, the people of Judah cried unto the Lord in fasting and in prayer. What happened thereafter? God who happens to be a specialist at discomfiting the enemies of His children did the impossible. He set an ambush against the three nations and they began to fight themselves until they totally destroyed themselves.

Beloved, I pray for you today. I do not know how many evil nations have risen against you, but I know the only God who can do the impossible in your life. May all these evil nations be wasted, in the name of Jesus. That day the Lord took the glory over the battle and Judah became victorious. That is what a people united in prayer can do. They moved the hand of God to favour them. He entered their battle and fought for them. The people of Judah did not need to fight in the battle; God fought and they only went there to pack there booties of war. May your enemies work and come to submit the harvest to you, in Jesus' name.

[6] And when Herod was about to bring him out, that night Peter was sleeping, bound with two chains between two soldiers; and the guards before the door were keeping the prison.
[7] Now behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the prison; and he struck Peter on the side and raised him up, saying, “Arise quickly!” And his chains fell off his hands.
[8] Then the angel said to him, “Gird yourself and tie on your sandals”; and so he did. And he said to him, “Put on your garment and follow me.”
[9] So he went out and followed him, and did not know that what was done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision.
[10] When they were past the first and the second guard posts, they came to the iron gate that leads to the city, which opened to them of its own accord; and they went out and went down one street, and immediately the angel departed from him.
[11] And when Peter had come to himself, he said, “Now I know for certain that the Lord has sent His angel, and has delivered me from the hand of Herod and from all the expectation of the Jewish people.”
[12] So, when he had considered this, he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together praying.

MFM Daily Devotional Message Saturday, 25th July, 2026.

We are looking at the power of corporate prayer today. The English dictionary defines corporate as, "many parts unified into one body or collective." We can safely say that "It is the potency or capability of many people praying at once. Therefore, beloved the power of corporate prayer cannot be over-emphasized. There is great power in it. And we know that prayer is the staff to walk with God. If you can't pray, then you cant walk with God. Our Fire Scripture today deals with the topic we are treating. In Acts 12:1-2 Herod vexed the church by stretching his hand to arrest James, the brother of John and killed him. When he saw that it pleased the Jews, he went ahead, arrested Peter and put him in jail, waiting for the time he was going to have him killed. This act of Herod was what galvanized the church into prayer (corporate prayer). The church was praying fervently for Peter's deliverance on the eve of his assassination when God sent an angel to go and deliver him. The church was praying and Peter was sleeping peacefully. The angel woke him up and led him out of the prison. Peter didn't believe he was free at first until he got outside the four walls of the prison.

The church was still praying when he got to the house of Mary the mother of John Mark whose house the people gathered to pray (v 12). Peter was delivered because of the power of corporate prayers. In our churches today, some people are receiving their miracles because, what they can't achieve individually in prayer, God does it when they gather with other believers. The word of God is powerful and sharper than any two edged sword. In the book Hebrew 10-25, the Bible enjoins us not to forsake the assembly of one another as the customs of some people is. Praying together as a church or family is powerful and profitable.

MFM Daily Devotional Message Friday, 24th July, 2026.

Stinginess is the unwillingness to give or share what one has with others. It stems from a mindset of scarcity and fear of lack. On this day, let us reflect on the dangers of stinginess and the importance of cultivating a generous heart. I recall the story of Mr. Ade, a businessman in Lagos who was known for his stingy nature. Despite his wealth, Mr. Ade refused to help those in need, including his own family members. He believed that giving would deplete his resources and that he needed to hold on tightly to what he had. Over time, Mr. Ade's relationships suffered, and he became isolated. His business also faced challenges, as potential partners were reluctant to work with someone who was known for his lack of generosity. Mr. Ade's story is a stark reminder of how stinginess can negatively impact our lives and relationships.

On the other hand, there is the story of Mama Grace, a widow from a small village in Kenya. Despite her limited resources, Mama Grace was known for her generous spirit. She often shared her food with her neighbours and provided support to struggling families in her community. Mama Grace believed that God would provide for her needs as she helped others. Her generosity did not go unnoticed; the community rallied around her during difficult times, and she always had enough to meet her needs. Mama Grace's story highlights the blessings that come from a generous heart.

God's word teaches us about the dangers of stinginess and the blessings of generosity. Proverbs 11:24-25 says, "One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed." This verse emphasises that generosity leads to prosperity, while stinginess leads to lack. 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 reminds us, "Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." Generosity should come from the heart, and it brings joy to both the giver and the receiver. Luke 6:38 encourages us, "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." This verse reminds us that our generosity will be rewarded abundantly by God.

Being unequally yoked means forming close relationships, partnerships, or marriages with those who do not share your faith or values. This can lead to conflicts and distractions from your spiritual journey. On this day, let us reflect on the importance of choosing our companions wisely.

I recall the story of Kemi, a young woman from Lagos who fell in love with a man who did not share her Christian faith. Despite warnings from her family and friends, Kemi believed she could change him and bring him to Christ. However, as their relationship progressed, Kemi found herself compromising her values and drifting away from her faith. The man influenced her to skip church services, engage in behaviours she knew were wrong, and neglect her relationship with God. Eventually, Kemi realised that being unequally yoked was hindering her spiritual growth and she made the difficult decision to end the relationship. Her story serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of aligning our relationships with our faith.

Similarly, there is the story of Paul, a businessman from Ghana who entered into a business partnership with someone who did not share his ethical values. Initially, the partnership seemed promising, but Paul soon discovered that his partner was involved in dishonest practices. Paul faced immense pressure to participate in these unethical activities, which conflicted with his Christian principles. After much prayer and counsel, Paul chose to dissolve the partnership, trusting God to provide for his business. This decision not only preserved Paul's integrity but also strengthened his faith.

God's word provides clear guidance on this issue. 2 Corinthians 6:14 says, "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?" This verse emphasises the importance of forming relationships that align with our faith and values.

Amos 3:3 asks, "Can two walk together unless they are agreed?" Unity in faith and values is essential for harmonious relationships. 1 Corinthians 15:33 also warns, "Do not be misled: 'Bad company corrupts good character." Surrounding ourselves with people who share our faith and values helps us grow spiritually and remain steadfast in our walk with God.

Beloved, as a believer in your place of work, you must adopt a servant-hearted attitude, whether you are the boss or not. Because you are an ambassador of Christ in that organisation, you must lead like Christ, who taught His followers servant leadership. He said to His disciples in Matthew 20: 28, "The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve." This attitude can transform your work, and through that, you can influence those working with you both as superiors and subordinates positively. Lead or serve with humility, putting the needs of others ahead of your own. Offer help when others are overwhelmed and celebrate the success of your team members or colleagues. The workplace is often filled with stress, competition and conflict; therefore, as a child of God, you must strive for peace and reconciliation where there is division. Be the peacemaker who diffuses tension and seeks unity over division. Matthew 5:9 says, "Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God."

Be careful not to display bigoted behaviour. You don't need to be overly religious to represent Christ. Sometimes, the most effective witness is a consistent life that reflects God's love, joy, and peace in practical ways. And when the opportunity arises, be ready to share the gospel with others (1 Peter 3:15). Also, ensure that you pray for your organisation and colleagues. Be intentional about working for the progress of the place by committing it to God in prayers. You may be surprised how God will use that simple act to bless, not only the company but you as well. Representing Christ in your workplace, business environment and community is not about perfection or performance; it is about allowing His presence to shine through you. You may be the only Bible some people ever read, so let your life speak clearly of God's love.
