Luke 5:1-11
1 So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him to hear the word of God, that He stood by the Lake of Gennesaret,
2 and saw two boats standing by the lake; but the fishermen had gone from them and were washing their nets.
3 Then He got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat.
4 When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”
5 But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.”
6 And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking.
7 So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.
8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!”
9 For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish which they had taken;
10 and so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men.”
11 So when they had brought their boats to land, they [a]forsook all and followed Him.

MFM Daily Devotional Message Monday, 1st June, 2026.
Peter, a professional fisherman, had worked all night and caught no fish. It was both frustrating and surprising, going by his wealth of experience on the job. His timing was right. The lools he used were also appropriate. He was at his wits' end when Jesus came to the scene. He obliged Jesus' request to use his boat for the work of the kingdom. Thereafter, Jesus gave him that simple but game-changing instruction, "Launch into the deep." That is, cast your net into deeper water. Peter must have tried many techniques in his attempt to catch some fish all through the night. He must have wondered about what was special about the instruction. Doesn't Jesus know he is a professional fisherman with many years of cognate experience?
What Peter did with the instruction will forever determine the course of his life. His encounter with Jesus that day could make or mar his destiny, depending on whether he carried out the Master's instruction or not. Heaven presented him an opportunity, a test of his faith. Jesus, who gave the instruction, is the word of God. The Bible says that by Him were all things made and without Him was not anything made that was made (John 1:3). He knew what Peter didn't know and could do what Peter couldn't. At His instruction, the fishes left their hideouts and entered Peter's nets, giving him an unprecedented net-breaking catch. This testimony of divine turnaround changed the course of Peter's life and ministry positively from that day.
Beloved, don't ignore, despise or disobey divine instructions. Many who are guilty of this offence are wallowing in the valley of insignificance. They are abysmal failures in life. Many students have failed examinations for not following the examiner's instructions or rubrics. Conversely those who follow divine instructions are wise, and they will always do exploits and shine like stars.
You might have attempted that venture, examination or breakthrough a couple of times using your skill, knowledge, wisdom, experience and connections all to no avail. I enjoin you to seek the face of our Royal Master, get His instruction and carry it out to the letter. Trust His unfailing ability and provision. Trust and obey Him. That is the only way to be happy and fulfilled in Jesus.
