Genesis 32:22-32
22 And he arose that night and took his two wives, his two female servants, and his eleven sons, and crossed over the ford of Jabbok.
23 He took them, sent them over the brook, and sent over what he had.
24 Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day.
25 Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him.
26 And He said, “Let Me go, for the day breaks.” But he said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me!”
27 So He said to him, “What is your name?” He said, “Jacob.”
28 And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.”
29 Then Jacob asked, saying, “Tell me Your name, I pray.” And He said, “Why is it that you ask about My name?” And He blessed him there.
30 So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: “For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”
31 Just as he crossed over Penuel the sun rose on him, and he limped on his hip.
32 Therefore to this day the children of Israel do not eat the muscle that shrank, which is on the hip socket, because He touched the socket of Jacob’s hip in the muscle that shrank.

We continue today with the topic we started yesterday and we would look at another character in the Bible who exhibited importunity in prayer, Jacob, in our Fire Scripture today. Jacob settled his family because of what he was going to do. He knew if he did not get his breakthrough that day, Esau was going to waste him and his posterity. He sent his family over the brook and he was left alone. His stance was, if I die, I die, if I live I live. He was ready for any eventuality. The battle with the angel started at about 10pm at night and he was fighting with the desperation of a man who knew that his life and that of his entire family depended on his victory; otherwise, they were doomed. He fought with renewed strength until the breaking of the day, when the angel saw that he couldn't prevail and that he must get back to where he came from, he relaxed and asked Jacob his name (vs 27). There and then he gave Jacob a new name so that he would let him go. Dearly beloved, God is still in the business of answering prayers. Are you ready to pray until something happens? Are you ready to detain hour angel of blessings until he releases your blessings? Are you ready to receive that healing with prayers, or you just pray a few minutes or hours and leave it at that? Even when it seems that heaven is not responding, are you ready to bombard heaven still?

Dear reader of this devotional, do you have a sense of pressing need or emergency that drives the prayer? Are you bold enough to ask in confidence and faith without hesitation until you get the required results? Do you even trust God enough to continue to bombard heaven? This is what the Bible says in Isaiah 62:1 "For Zion's sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth."
