Building wealth is a common goal for many people. But Christians must understand that they have to build their wealth in a way that aligns with biblical principles. Wealth-building, when done rightly, is not about selfish accumulation but about being faithful stewards of the resources God has entrusted to us. Below are some key wealth-building strategies for Christians based on the Scriptures:
First, you must put God first in your wealth-building. The foundation of wealth-building is recognising that everything we have belongs to God. The Bible teaches that our wealth is a gift from God, and we should prioritise Him in our financial decisions. Proverbs 3:9-10 says, "Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: so shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine." When you place God at the centre of your financial life, He will provide for your needs and guide your steps. This means consistently seeking His will, praying for wisdom in your financial decisions, and being generous with what He provides.
Second, you must work diligently and skilfully. Wealth does not come from laziness or a desire for a "get-rich-quick" scheme. The Bible teaches the importance of hard work and skill in providing for one's needs. Proverbs 14:23 says, "In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury." Work is a blessing from God, and Christians should take pride in their labour, doing everything to the glory of God (Colossians 3:23). By developing expertise in a given field, working hard, and being consistent, a Christian can build wealth. Proverbs 12:11 says, "He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding."
