Luke 5:1-5
[1] So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him to hear the word of God, that He stood by the Lake of Gennesaret,
[2] and saw two boats standing by the lake; but the fishermen had gone from them and were washing their nets.
[3] Then He got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat.
[4] When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”
[5] But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.”

Encounter has to do with a personal experience with God that causes enduring spiritual effect. It is a definite time in your spiritual journey when you break into a deeper understanding of God's will that eventually changes your spiritual outlook and draws you deeper into God. Encounter is when you meet with God or Jesus Christ in a special way, and you are gloriously ushered into a new realm of overwhelming transformation.
The bitter reality is that a Christian can be active in the Kingdom service without an encounter. That was the case with Isaiah, the Messianic Prophet. From chapter one to five of the book named after him, he was a fiery preacher, declaring divine judgement upon the spiritually backslidden Israel. However, in chapter six, he had an encounter with God that totally overhauled and revolutionized his spiritual life. There are countless numbers of Christians who are serving God but have no relationship with Him. The greatest tragedy is to claim to be a believer, yet without an encounter with Jesus.
There is an encounter that precedes every spiritual renewal, every spiritual exploit, and repositioning for glory. There is an encounter that must happen for you to fulfil your destiny. There is an encounter that must happen for your star to shine, for your glory to manifest, for your breakthrough to spring forth, and for your ministry or calling to start making impact. Simon Peter and other Apostles had such a deep and genuine encounter.
In our Fire Scripture, we read the account of the encounter that Peter and his partners had with Jesus. They had toiled all night without catching a single fish. However, an encounter with Jesus Christ changed such an ugly trajectory of their story. Meanwhile, the profound lesson of their encounter with Jesus is stated in verse eleven, "... they forsook all and followed Him." Encounter with Jesus Christ will always cost you something dear. It may be that very thing you have been cherishing for many years. Are you seriously interested in having an encounter with Jesus?
