MFM Daily Devotional Message Friday, 30th January, 2026.

The man, David, is a phenomenal character. There are so many lessons to learn from him that are relevant for believers today. Even though he operated under the law, he lived as one who had proper understanding of the ways of God and was a recipient of uncommon grace. Little wonder God described him as a man after His own heart.

There's something interesting about David's genealogy. It would seem his lineage was polluted because his ancestor, Judah, slept with his daughter in law, Tamar, and had twins - Perez and Zerah. According to the law in Deuteronomy 23:2, these children were not allowed in the house of God until the tenth generation. David was the tenth generation from Perez so the curse was lifted from him. There were also foreigners in his family tree. This serves as proof that God does not discriminate. All who come to Him through Christ are accepted and saved.

David was the last son of Jesse, the one who was left in the wilderness to care for sheep because he was too young to take up more serious responsibilities like joining the national army of Israel. This young man who started from the wilderness eventually rose to prominence; he became the king of Israel, the sweet psalmist of Israel.

David was multi-talented and he used every one of his talents for the glory of God. Herein lies a great lesson for believers today. Every gift God has placed in your life is for His glory. It doesn't matter if you're currently in the wilderness; that is, you are at a point where nobody recognises you. Do everything as if there's an audience watching you; this is important because heaven can see everything you do even if nobody is physically present. Faithfulness in secret would eventually lead to open recognition.

Over the next few days, we would examine some lessons from the life of this great man. I urge you to open your heart as we dive into this study of Israel's greatest king. We will study his positive traits and imbibe them; we will also learn from his flaws. May the Lord open your heart to receive from Him, in Jesus' name.
