[1] Now in the church that was at Antioch there were certain prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

[2] As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”

[3] Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away.

[4] So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus.

[5] And when they arrived in Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. They also had John as their assistant.

[6] Now when they had gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar-Jesus,

[7] who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. This man called for Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God.

[8] But Elymas the sorcerer (for so his name is translated) withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith.

[9] Then Saul, who also is called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him

[10] and said, “O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord?

[11] And now, indeed, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a time.” And immediately a dark mist fell on him, and he went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.

[12] Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had been done, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.

MFM Daily Devotional Message Wednesday, 20th May, 2026.
Missions is the act of sending people out to various parts of the world for the purpose of evangelizing and winning souls to God's Kingdom.

Missions is part of our identity. 1 Peter 2:9 says: "But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light." God made us a people for His own possession to tell others of His greatness and especially, the sacrifice He made to save us.

Missions is part of our faith and also because Jesus commanded it. By our faith in Christ, we have entrusted our lives to Him. Therefore, we should trust Him enough to obey His command to "go into all the world and preach the gospel" (Mark 16:15). Missions indeed is inseparable from our faith. Proclaiming the Gospel is not just important because we are commanded to do it. God uses us to bring the good news of Jesus to those who need a Saviour. (Romans 15:20). The world needs the Good News, and as Christians, we have the Good News-Jesus. The Samaritan woman believed that Jesus was good news, too good to keep to herself (John 4:28-30).

Jesus delivered us from sin, bringing us into a relationship with God and giving us joy and peace. In a world of sin and suffering, others need this Good News also. Moreso, to whom much is given, much is expected. Jesus has saved you from sin and eternal perdition; you need to rise for the rescue of other souls who are on the fast track to hell fire. So, begin to get yourself involved in missions. When we do missions work, God works through us to bring healing and deliverance to the hurting, the hopeless, the sick, and the perishing.

Missions is spreading the praise, worship, and the blessings of God to those who are not yet worshippers. We are doing that because just like God, we want all the peoples of the earth to join in His praise, by so doing, God's glory is increased. Missions work could be in sending, going, or giving. So, get enlisted! This is because we would be held accountable for any soul that perish in hell due to our indifference to Missions.

Justification is one of the prime cornerstones in our redemption and the consequent conferment of sonship upon us as the Redeemed of the Lord. In the justice system of God, every sin must be judged, and the sinner punished. This was clearly stated in the instruction handed down to Adam by God in the Garden of Eden in Genesis 2:16-17, "And the LORD God commanded the man, saying. Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."

Unfortunately, Adam, the first man, through the voluntary act of disobedience, violated the instruction of God and fell into the abyss of sin and its devastating consequences. The sin of Adam and its attendant punishments were automatically credited into the spiritual account of every man. Everyone born into this world came in as a sinner (Romans 5:19a). Every man was doomed for eternal perdition to satisfy the righteous demand of God's justice system.

Graciously, Jesus Christ, the Messiah, came to die for the sin of mankind. Therefore, anyone who believes in Jesus Christ and accepts Him as Lord and Saviour is cleansed from the corrosive effects of sin and accepted into the family of God as a justified child. Justification is the act whereby a person is declared guiltless and pronounced righteous and upright by God not on the person's merit but on the strength of the sacrifice of Jesus and His concluded work on the Cross at Calvary.

Having been justified and declared righteous by God, your life must therefore manifest the fruits of justification such as love for God and humanity, fear of God, integrity, brokenness, meekness, gentleness, obedience to God's word, submission to God's will, uprightness, and every other quality that is traceable to the person and the life of Jesus. Beloved, is your life manifesting the fruits of Justification?

[1] Now when the people complained, it displeased the Lord; for the Lord heard it, and His anger was aroused. So the fire of the Lord burned among them, and consumed some in the outskirts of the camp.

[2] Then the people cried out to Moses, and when Moses prayed to the Lord, the fire was quenched.

[3] So he called the name of the place Taberah, because the fire of the Lord had burned among them.

[4] Now the mixed multitude who were among them yielded to intense craving; so the children of Israel also wept again and said: “Who will give us meat to eat?

[5] We remember the fish which we ate freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic;

[6] but now our whole being is dried up; there is nothing at all except this manna before our eyes!”

[7] Now the manna was like coriander seed, and its color like the color of bdellium.

[8] The people went about and gathered it, ground it on millstones or beat it in the mortar, cooked it in pans, and made cakes of it; and its taste was like the taste of pastry prepared with oil.

[9] And when the dew fell on the camp in the night, the manna fell on it.

[10] Then Moses heard the people weeping throughout their families, everyone at the door of his tent; and the anger of the Lord was greatly aroused; Moses also was displeased.

[11] So Moses said to the Lord, “Why have You afflicted Your servant? And why have I not found favor in Your sight, that You have laid the burden of all these people on me?

[12] Did I conceive all these people? Did I beget them, that You should say to me, ‘Carry them in your bosom, as a guardian carries a nursing child,’ to the land which You swore to their fathers?

[13] Where am I to get meat to give to all these people? For they weep all over me, saying, ‘Give us meat, that we may eat.’

[14] I am not able to bear all these people alone, because the burden is too heavy for me.

[15] If You treat me like this, please kill me here and now—if I have found favor in Your sight—and do not let me see my wretchedness!”

MFM Daily Devotional Message Monday, 18th May, 2026.
In these last days, there is need for us as (believers) to understand the identity and activities of the spiritual entities called the "mixed multitudes". The mixed multitude instigated the Israelites against their God as we pointed out in the first part of this devotional yesterday. They also corrupted the the mind of the Israelites as they affected them by the insidious spirit of lust. The spirit of lust is the power of sinful longing for things which God prohibits. It is the force that makes people desire what God has condemned. Lust can degenerate to the level of bewitchment that blinds one to God's loving care and goodness, which eventually leads to falling away from God. All these happened to the Israelites according to our Fire Scripture of today.

The mixed multitudes badly influenced the Israelites to the point of looking back to Egypt and longing for their Egyptian delicacies of fish, cucumber, melons, leeks, onions and garlic. This very low attitude made them despise the Heavenly delicacy, Manna, the food of angels with which God was feeding them. Are you not surprised? What is in fish or cucumber or even onions and garlic that would make a whole nation desire returning to the land of bondage? They even exaggerated by saying that, "... our soul is dried away..." (v6). They wept so much like over-pampered children and the anger of God was kindled against them, and the meek Moses was displeased and also became angry. They frustrated the leader God placed over them. They were drawn away from God, forgetting His goodness, love and providence. They inevitably came under the Judgement of the loving God, and many of them were eventually destroyed.

The truth is that in the church today, there are lots of mixed multitudes who are not fully with God, neither are they persuaded of His goodness and love. They pretend to belong to God's children, but they are not. In fact, they are causing a lot of innocent ones to stumble. Beware.

The story of the great deliverance of the Israelites by the Almighty God from the house of bondage in Egypt is a glorious attestation to the awesome power of God to work profound wonders in the midst of His people. Through the mighty display of God's unchallengable power against the Egyptians and their deities, the Jews were allowed to go and serve the Lord God of their fathers. Interestingly, many people who were not of Jewish ancestry, also witnessed the demonstration of the awesome power of God, and the diverse fiery judgements that came upon the Egyptians. Consequently, as the Israelites were marching out of the land of Egypt, the Bible records that "a mixed multitude went up also with them.... (Exodus 12:38).

Who are these mixed multitudes? They were people of other nations who had no connection with the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. They were people who had no established relationship with the God of Israel. They were the people who joined themselves to the covenant people of God without accurate understanding of the principle, the practice, and the demands of the covenant. They followed God out of fear and not out of love for Him. They followed God's train because of immediate gains, comfort, security, and provisions.

Unfortunately, after some years in the wilderness, as the people of God journeyed towards the promised land, the land flowing with milk and honey, the mixed multitude they allowed to follow them became their albatross, causing them great problems which led to stern judgement from God. The mixed multitudes instigated the Israelites against their God, the God who has demonstrated great love, care, and power towards His people.

In your Christian journey, there are different kinds of people you must never allow or encourage to accompany you in your desire and determination to seek God and travel far with Him. The mixed multitudes are parts of such people. If you allow them, they will only succeed in drawing you away from God.

Each of the biblical examples above highlights the serious consequences of trying to take God's glory for oneself. Whether through pride, rebellion, or self-promotion, usurping God's glory is a sin that leads to a person's downfall or outright destruction. Beloved, we are called to humble ourselves, acknowledge God's sovereignty, and direct all glory to Him alone. The Bible makes it clear in our memory verse, James 4: 6 that God opposes the proud but shows favour to the humble. Anyone who wants to be a friend of God and enjoys His favour must humble himself or herself before Him.

God frowns seriously at any act of pride and arrogance. Throughout Scripture, He makes it unequivocally clear that His glory is not to be shared with anyone. In Isaiah 42:8, He states: "I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images." This verse sets the foundation: God alone is worthy of glory. When humans attempt to take credit for what God has done, they dishonour Him and violate this divine principle. Unfortunately, many people fall into the fatal error of accepting the glory that belongs to God. Believers are called to reflect, not steal God's glory

Jesus taught His followers to let their good works point others to God, not to themselves. Matthew 5:16 says, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." The goal is always to glorify God, not ourselves. We are vessels through which His glory is revealed. Taking God's glory is not a small matter; it is rebellion. Failure to acknowledge Him robs God of the honour due to His name and attracts divine judgement.

In our devotional today, we will look at the lifestyle of the Pharisees as it concerns our topic, "The Danger of Taking God's Glory." The Pharisees were religious leaders who sought to be honoured and praised by others for their outward acts of righteousness. They loved the attention and recognition they received from men, seeking glory for themselves rather than directing it to God, which was the main reason they vehemently opposed the doctrines of our Lord Jesus.

The Pharisees were highly respected religious leaders in Israel, and their outward displays of righteousness were often for show. Jesus criticised them for their hypocrisy - performing religious duties to be seen by men, not out of genuine love for God. They loved being honoured by others, enjoying the best seats in synagogues and the praises of men. They loved the attention and recognition they received from men, seeking glory for themselves rather than directing it to God.

Our Lord, Jesus Christ, was against their desire for approval from people over God because the Pharisees were more concerned with the recognition they received than with glorifying God through their actions. Jesus rebuked them for seeking self-glory instead of humility and service. True righteousness is about serving God and others without the need for recognition. We must examine our motives. Are we doing good works for the praise of others, or are we motivated by a desire to honour God? Jesus calls us to be humble, to serve without seeking the approval of men but God's approval. And again, the Pharisees were known for their hypocrisy. They pretended to be serving God while in actual sense they were seeking personal glory. This, the Lord found quite disgusting and unbecoming of those who claim to be serving God.

[3] Then they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar.

[4] And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”

[5] But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.

[6] And the Lord said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.

[7] Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.”

[8] So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city.

[9] Therefore its name is called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.

MFM Daily Devotional Message Thursday, 14th May, 2026.
From our Fire Scripture, we see that the people of Babel wanted to build a tower that reached the heavens in an attempt to make a name for themselves and avoid being scattered across the earth. They desired to satisfy their self-interest, disregarding God's original command to fill the earth and subdue it. They said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth" (Genesis 11:4).

Beloved, I want you to take note of the ambition of the builders of the Tower of Babel. Their very interest was to make a name for themselves. So, the construction of the tower was an act of pride and blatant disobedience to God in Genesis 9:1. They wanted to build a monument for their aggrandisement. God, seeing their pride and their desire to make a name for themselves rather than glorify Him, confused their languages, causing them to scatter across the earth. The tower, which was a symbol of pride and arrogance was left unfinished. The Tower of Babel was not just an architectural project; it was a manifestation of humanity's desire to challenge God. The people's ambition was not for the glory of God but for their fame and security. The scattering and confusion of language was God's way of showing that every effort to take His glory will ultimately fail. Here, we learn that when we try to make a name for ourselves apart from God, we end up scattered and confused.

These people sought to elevate themselves through human achievement rather than glorifying God. In response, God confused their language and scattered them, demonstrating that pride and self-glorification cannot thwart God's plans.

[18] And they withstood King Uzziah, and said to him, “It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the Lord, but for the priests, the sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense. Get out of the sanctuary, for you have trespassed! You shall have no honor from the Lord God.”

[19] Then Uzziah became furious; and he had a censer in his hand to burn incense. And while he was angry with the priests, leprosy broke out on his forehead, before the priests in the house of the Lord, beside the incense altar.

[20] And Azariah the chief priest and all the priests looked at him, and there, on his forehead, he was leprous; so they thrust him out of that place. Indeed he also hurried to get out, because the Lord had struck him.

[21] King Uzziah was a leper until the day of his death. He dwelt in an isolated house, because he was a leper; for he was cut off from the house of the Lord. Then Jotham his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land.

King Uzziah was a king of Judah who reigned for 52 years. His reign started well, and he was prosperous. He was successful in battles, and his kingdom grew to be very strong. However, his heart was lifted up, and he became prideful. He entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense, a task that was reserved for the priests, and when confronted by the priests, he became enraged. The Lord struck Uzziah with leprosy for his transgression, and he was forced to live in isolation for the rest of his life.

Uzziah's sin was not just his pride but his wilful disobedience to the clear command of God. The fact that he was king did not give him the right to break God's laws. His desire to act as if he could be both king and priest showed that he failed to recognise that the roles of leadership and worship were different and given by God. His story emphasises that even those in positions of power must remain humble and obedient to God's commands. Here, we leam that pride leads to rebellion, and rebellion leads to judgement. Our success should never cause us to think we can do anything apart from God's will. Being successful does not give you the right to circumvent God's stipulated order of doing things. Everyone must respect boundaries no matter their accomplishments. Uzziah's pride and unfaithfulness led to his downfall and destruction.

The primary lesson we learn from the story of Uzziah is that God is ready to embarrass, disgrace and destroy anyone who stands in His way or usurps His glory. Therefore, no matter the height you have attained spiritually and physically, do not assume the position of God because all the glory belongs to Him alone.

Lucifer, who was once a beautiful angel, became proud and sought to elevate himself above God. His desire to be like the Most High led to his rebellion and eventual fall from heaven. This act of rivalry with God resulted in Lucifer's transformation into satan. Isaiah 14:12-15 says, "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit."

This famous declaration of Lucifer in Isaiah 14 is often referred to as the "I will" statements, where he declared his intent to ascend above God's throne, to be like the Most High. Here was a being, perfect in beauty and wisdom, until his pride led to his fall and deformation. Yes, that is what happens to a man who forgets his Maker and begins to take the glory for his achievements.

He was not merely disobedient; he sought to take what rightfully belonged to God-the glory and authority of the Most High. The temptation to become like God is at the core of every human sin. Adam and Eve's fall in the garden began with the same desire: to "be like God" (Genesis 3:5). Lucifer's story serves as a warning against trying to elevate ourselves to God's level. This desire to be noticed, if left unchecked, can lead to spiritual death. It is only in humility that we can align ourselves with God's will and give Him the glory He deserves.

[33] That very hour the word was fulfilled concerning Nebuchadnezzar; he was driven from men and ate grass like oxen; his body was wet with the dew of heaven till his hair had grown like eagles’ feathers and his nails like birds’ claws.

[34] And at the end of the time I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me; and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever: For His dominion is an everlasting dominion, And His kingdom is from generation to generation.

[35] All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; He does according to His will in the army of heaven And among the inhabitants of the earth. No one can restrain His hand Or say to Him, “What have You done?”

[36] At the same time my reason returned to me, and for the glory of my kingdom, my honor and splendor returned to me. My counselors and nobles resorted to me, I was restored to my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added to me.

King Nebuchadnezzar was one of the most powerful rulers of the ancient world. He had a vast kingdom. After having a dream about a great tree that was cut down, he received an interpretation from the prophet, Daniel. The interpretation revealed that Nebuchadnezzar's pride would lead him to a place where God would humble him, causing him to lose his mind and live as a wild animal for seven years. But before this, King Nebuchadnezzar, in his pride, boasted about his greatness, claiming that his power and kingdom were the result of his might and wisdom. He failed to acknowledge that it was God who gave him the power. God humbled him by causing him to lose his sanity for a period of time, during which he lived like an animal.

Nebuchadnezzar's arrogance in taking credit for God's blessings was a dangerous move. His temporary insanity was a humbling experience, leading him to finally recognise that God alone is sovereign over all powers. Before the judgement of God came upon him, he boasted of his achievements, saying, "Is not this great Babylon that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?" (Daniel 4:30). What arrogance! His failure to recognise God as the ultimate source of his power and success led to God's anger and instant judgement. The opulence and grandeur of his kingdom got into his head, and he forgot that there is a supreme being that created him. Beloved, no matter who you are and what you have, as long as you were created, you must give the praise and glory to the One who created you - The Almighty God. King Nebuchadnezzar's temporary insanity was a humbling experience that made him finally acknowledge God's supreme authority.

In the Bible, there are several notable examples of individuals who usurped God's glory. either by accepting praise that belonged to God or by attempting to rival His authority. Our devotionals in the next few days will be dedicated to the consideration of some of these Bible characters.

We will start by looking at King Herod Agrippa I, the ruler of Judea. He gave a public address that led the people to declare him a god due to their high admiration of him. Instead of humbling himself and redirecting the praise to God, he accepted the praises and hailing of the people, thereby taking the glory that belonged to God alone. The people in their admiration for him, declared, "It is the voice of a god, and not of a man." But instead of playing down the people's praise for him and giving it to God immediately, he allowed it. This attracted an instant judgement from God. An angel struck him down for his arrogance, and he was eaten by worms. The fall of Herod clearly shows us the danger of pride and the seduction of human praise. When we start to accept the praise that is due to God alone, we put ourselves in a dangerous position. God will not share His glory with anyone. Accepting the glory that belongs to God alone leads to both spiritual and physical harm. Indeed, all glory belongs to God, and to steal it is to place ourselves in opposition to Him.

Beloved, when others praise you, redirect the praise to God. Acknowledge that every ability, gift, talent and success comes from Him. This is not only a humble acknowledgement of the truth but also a way to honour God as the ultimate source of everything good in your life.
