[17] So Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him were eighty priests of the Lord—valiant men.

[18] And they withstood King Uzziah, and said to him, “It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the Lord, but for the priests, the sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense. Get out of the sanctuary, for you have trespassed! You shall have no honor from the Lord God.”

[19] Then Uzziah became furious; and he had a censer in his hand to burn incense. And while he was angry with the priests, leprosy broke out on his forehead, before the priests in the house of the Lord, beside the incense altar.

[20] And Azariah the chief priest and all the priests looked at him, and there, on his forehead, he was leprous; so they thrust him out of that place. Indeed he also hurried to get out, because the Lord had struck him.

[21] King Uzziah was a leper until the day of his death. He dwelt in an isolated house, because he was a leper; for he was cut off from the house of the Lord. Then Jotham his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land.

King Uzziah was a king of Judah who reigned for 52 years. His reign started well, and he was prosperous. He was successful in battles, and his kingdom grew to be very strong. However, his heart was lifted up, and he became prideful. He entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense, a task that was reserved for the priests, and when confronted by the priests, he became enraged. The Lord struck Uzziah with leprosy for his transgression, and he was forced to live in isolation for the rest of his life.

Uzziah's sin was not just his pride but his wilful disobedience to the clear command of God. The fact that he was king did not give him the right to break God's laws. His desire to act as if he could be both king and priest showed that he failed to recognise that the roles of leadership and worship were different and given by God. His story emphasises that even those in positions of power must remain humble and obedient to God's commands. Here, we leam that pride leads to rebellion, and rebellion leads to judgement. Our success should never cause us to think we can do anything apart from God's will. Being successful does not give you the right to circumvent God's stipulated order of doing things. Everyone must respect boundaries no matter their accomplishments. Uzziah's pride and unfaithfulness led to his downfall and destruction.

The primary lesson we learn from the story of Uzziah is that God is ready to embarrass, disgrace and destroy anyone who stands in His way or usurps His glory. Therefore, no matter the height you have attained spiritually and physically, do not assume the position of God because all the glory belongs to Him alone.

MFM Daily Devotional Message Tuesday, 12th May, 2026.
Lucifer, who was once a beautiful angel, became proud and sought to elevate himself above God. His desire to be like the Most High led to his rebellion and eventual fall from heaven. This act of rivalry with God resulted in Lucifer's transformation into satan. Isaiah 14:12-15 says, "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit."

This famous declaration of Lucifer in Isaiah 14 is often referred to as the "I will" statements, where he declared his intent to ascend above God's throne, to be like the Most High. Here was a being, perfect in beauty and wisdom, until his pride led to his fall and deformation. Yes, that is what happens to a man who forgets his Maker and begins to take the glory for his achievements.

He was not merely disobedient; he sought to take what rightfully belonged to God-the glory and authority of the Most High. The temptation to become like God is at the core of every human sin. Adam and Eve's fall in the garden began with the same desire: to "be like God" (Genesis 3:5). Lucifer's story serves as a warning against trying to elevate ourselves to God's level. This desire to be noticed, if left unchecked, can lead to spiritual death. It is only in humility that we can align ourselves with God's will and give Him the glory He deserves.

[31] While the word was still in the king’s mouth, a voice fell from heaven: “King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: the kingdom has departed from you!

[32] And they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. They shall make you eat grass like oxen; and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses.”

[33] That very hour the word was fulfilled concerning Nebuchadnezzar; he was driven from men and ate grass like oxen; his body was wet with the dew of heaven till his hair had grown like eagles’ feathers and his nails like birds’ claws.

[34] And at the end of the time I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me; and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever: For His dominion is an everlasting dominion, And His kingdom is from generation to generation.

[35] All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; He does according to His will in the army of heaven And among the inhabitants of the earth. No one can restrain His hand Or say to Him, “What have You done?”

[36] At the same time my reason returned to me, and for the glory of my kingdom, my honor and splendor returned to me. My counselors and nobles resorted to me, I was restored to my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added to me.

[37] Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all of whose works are truth, and His ways justice. And those who walk in pride He is able to put down.

King Nebuchadnezzar was one of the most powerful rulers of the ancient world. He had a vast kingdom. After having a dream about a great tree that was cut down, he received an interpretation from the prophet, Daniel. The interpretation revealed that Nebuchadnezzar's pride would lead him to a place where God would humble him, causing him to lose his mind and live as a wild animal for seven years. But before this, King Nebuchadnezzar, in his pride, boasted about his greatness, claiming that his power and kingdom were the result of his might and wisdom. He failed to acknowledge that it was God who gave him the power. God humbled him by causing him to lose his sanity for a period of time, during which he lived like an animal.

Nebuchadnezzar's arrogance in taking credit for God's blessings was a dangerous move. His temporary insanity was a humbling experience, leading him to finally recognise that God alone is sovereign over all powers. Before the judgement of God came upon him, he boasted of his achievements, saying, "Is not this great Babylon that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?" (Daniel 4:30). What arrogance! His failure to recognise God as the ultimate source of his power and success led to God's anger and instant judgement. The opulence and grandeur of his kingdom got into his head, and he forgot that there is a supreme being that created him. Beloved, no matter who you are and what you have, as long as you were created, you must give the praise and glory to the One who created you - The Almighty God. King Nebuchadnezzar's temporary insanity was a humbling experience that made him finally acknowledge God's supreme authority.

MFM Daily Devotional Message Sunday, 10th May, 2026.
In the Bible, there are several notable examples of individuals who usurped God's glory. either by accepting praise that belonged to God or by attempting to rival His authority. Our devotionals in the next few days will be dedicated to the consideration of some of these Bible characters.

We will start by looking at King Herod Agrippa I, the ruler of Judea. He gave a public address that led the people to declare him a god due to their high admiration of him. Instead of humbling himself and redirecting the praise to God, he accepted the praises and hailing of the people, thereby taking the glory that belonged to God alone. The people in their admiration for him, declared, "It is the voice of a god, and not of a man." But instead of playing down the people's praise for him and giving it to God immediately, he allowed it. This attracted an instant judgement from God. An angel struck him down for his arrogance, and he was eaten by worms. The fall of Herod clearly shows us the danger of pride and the seduction of human praise. When we start to accept the praise that is due to God alone, we put ourselves in a dangerous position. God will not share His glory with anyone. Accepting the glory that belongs to God alone leads to both spiritual and physical harm. Indeed, all glory belongs to God, and to steal it is to place ourselves in opposition to Him.

Beloved, when others praise you, redirect the praise to God. Acknowledge that every ability, gift, talent and success comes from Him. This is not only a humble acknowledgement of the truth but also a way to honour God as the ultimate source of everything good in your life.

Human beings are, by nature, filled with pride. A renowned boxer said, "It is hard to be humble when you are good." The desire to be seen, acknowledged, or even glorified is within the heart of every degenerated mind. Everyone who walks after the flesh will give glory to himself, while the man who walks after the Spirit will give all the glory to God because he understands that without God, he can do nothing.

The Bible warms us repeatedly that taking the glory that belongs to God is dangerous and offensive to Him. It is unacceptable to God. Many people in the Bible who mocked God or boasted in their powers were openly disgraced by God. It is still happening today; when men leave God out of the calculation, trusting in themselves to do anything, they end in failure and shame because they do not give God the glory and do not acknowledge His sovereignty over all.

Psalm 8: 1-6 says, "O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! Who hast set thy glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; what is man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands, thou hast put all things under his feet.

[1] Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! Sing to the Lord, all the earth.

[2] Sing to the Lord, bless His name; Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.

[3] Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples.

[4] For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods.

[5] For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the Lord made the heavens.

[6] Honor and majesty are before Him; Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.

[7] Give to the Lord, O families of the peoples, Give to the Lord glory and strength.

[8] Give to the Lord the glory due His name; Bring an offering, and come into His courts.

[9] Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness! Tremble before Him, all the earth.

[10] Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns; The world also is firmly established, It shall not be moved; He shall judge the peoples righteously.”

[11] Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; Let the sea roar, and all its fullness;

[12] Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it. Then all the trees of the woods will rejoice before the Lord.

[13] For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with righteousness, And the peoples with His truth.

The glory of God is exclusively His. He will share it with no one. All power belongs to Him. He is the Creator of all things, and He sustains all things. Of our own, we can do nothing. There is no controversy that He is the Almighty, so no one or any other power has the right to share His glory. He is the Alpha and Omega, beside Him there is no other. It would be foolishness of the highest order to take or share God's glory. It is only reasonable that man or any creation of God knows their place.

We must acknowledge His supremacy over all, and accord Him the regard and honour. It is gross misdemeanour when the creation begins to equate itself with the Almighty. The Bible says, "Without Him, we can do nothing" (John 15: 5), but "we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us" (Philippians 4: 13).

Beloved, to remain a true friend and child of God, never try to share or take the glory that belongs to Him alone. This is the secret to His heart because He is passionate about His glory, and rightfully so. As God, only He is worthy of all the glory and praise.

Revelation 14:6-7 says, "And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters."

[4] Then I said, ‘I have been cast out of Your sight; Yet I will look again toward Your holy temple.’

[5] The waters surrounded me, even to my soul; The deep closed around me; Weeds were wrapped around my head.

[6] I went down to the moorings of the mountains; The earth with its bars closed behind me forever; Yet You have brought up my life from the pit, O Lord, my God.

[7] “When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the Lord; And my prayer went up to You, Into Your holy temple.

[8] “Those who regard worthless idols Forsake their own Mercy.

[9] But I will sacrifice to You With the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.”

Today, we shall round off the topic "How to Pray in Times of Crisis." Crisis time is not a palatable period. It is a time when man gets to his wits end and is desperate for solution, so that he can get out of the problem. The Fire Scripture for today talks about the prayer Jonah prayed when he entered into the belly of the fish. God sent him on assignment to Nineveh, but he decided to go to Tarshish. He wanted to run away from the assignment that God gave him, because the people of Nineveh where Israel's enemies. He did not want God to have mercy upon them. He said he knew that God was a merciful God and if the people repented, God would forgive them and they would not pay for their sins against Isreal. That was why he ran towards Tarshish. But there is no one that can escape from God. In Psalm 139:7 David asked "Wither shall I go from thy spirit?" There was nowhere Jonah could have escaped to that God would not have got him?

Dearly beloved, Jonah prayed very desperate prayers from the belly of the fish after the sailors threw him inside the sea. Right from the first verse of chapter 2 of the book of Jonah, his desperate prayer started. Jonah cried out by reason of his affliction unto the Lord, Jonah was in the belly of the fish for three days. He did three days prayer and fasting, begging God to reconsider and forgive him.

Someone who is in crisis will go on 21 days prayer and fasting so that he can get out of the crisis. If he has to go on multiple days of vigil, he will do it, even if he has not done vigil all his life.

A man had problems for about 15 years and still he said he has never fasted all his life. anytime he was to fast, by 11a.m he has gone to break his fast. But when the problem lingered, he had to reconsider his stand and change his attitude.

[13] may the Lord do so and much more to Jonathan. But if it pleases my father to do you evil, then I will report it to you and send you away, that you may go in safety. And the Lord be with you as He has been with my father.

[14] And you shall not only show me the kindness of the Lord while I still live, that I may not die;

[15] but you shall not cut off your kindness from my house forever, no, not when the Lord has cut off every one of the enemies of David from the face of the earth.”

[16] So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, “Let the Lord require it at the hand of David’s enemies.”

We started this very crucial topic yesterday, "How to Pray in Times of Crisis", I mentioned that David was a man who experienced crisis in his life and today we are examining how he prayed in this period of time. In our Fire Scripture, we shall see his pattern of prayers when he went to the priests' city of NOB, when he was running away from Saul (Psalm 52:1-3), "Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty men? The goodness of God endureth continually. Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness".

When David came to Ahimelech, he told him that the king hath commanded him on a business, because the business was urgent. David was not prepared, but Ahimelech did not know that David was on the run because David did not carry any weapon and he was hungry and the men with him. Ahimelech gave him the sword of Goliath that was in the house of God and also gave him sacred bread to eat. A man called Doeg was there a servant of Saul. He told Saul that Ahimelech kitted David and fed him -1 Samuel 21:6-8,

Saul was very angry, he came with his soldiers and killed 85 priests in one day just because of what Doeg said- that was what gave birth to Psalm 52. Pray it when you face crisis.

Dearly beloved, the prayer of crisis time is the prayer that comes from the inner heart, a prayer you can call a heart-felt prayer. When you pray during crisis, it is the prayer to return the evil of the enemy back to the enemy. It is the prayer that goes deep to recount the harm done by the enemy and to ask that God should judge the enemy with the same measure he has meted. It is the prayer of, "O God arise and avenge me of the enemies because I did not do what they are accusing me of." The prayer should be uncivilized prayer that brings maximum punishment to the enemy. You use your most potent weapon during this type of prayer.

[2] So Jonathan said to him, “By no means! You shall not die! Indeed, my father will do nothing either great or small without first telling me. And why should my father hide this thing from me? It is not so!”

[3] Then David took an oath again, and said, “Your father certainly knows that I have found favor in your eyes, and he has said, ‘Do not let Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved.’ But truly, as the Lord lives and as your soul lives, there is but a step between me and death.”

[4] So Jonathan said to David, “Whatever you yourself desire, I will do it for you.”

[5] And David said to Jonathan, “Indeed tomorrow is the New Moon, and I should not fail to sit with the king to eat. But let me go, that I may hide in the field until the third day at evening.

[6] If your father misses me at all, then say, ‘David earnestly asked permission of me that he might run over to Bethlehem, his city, for there is a yearly sacrifice there for all the family.’

[7] If he says thus: ‘It is well,’ your servant will be safe. But if he is very angry, be sure that evil is determined by him.

[8] Therefore you shall deal kindly with your servant, for you have brought your servant into a covenant of the Lord with you. Nevertheless, if there is iniquity in me, kill me yourself, for why should you bring me to your father?”

[9] But Jonathan said, “Far be it from you! For if I knew certainly that evil was determined by my father to come upon you, then would I not tell you?”

[10] Then David said to Jonathan, “Who will tell me, or what if your father answers you roughly?”

Crisis is a turning point for better or worse. It is that juncture where one decides or declares. If I die, I die, If I live, I live. David was in crisis for the better part of thirteen years.

He was running helter skelter, from one cave to another, from one wilderness to another trying to escape Saul and his team of hired killers. In our Fire Scripture today, we read of how Jonathan helped him to take a decisive decision to run away from Saul and from the palace. David was a man who suffered so much affliction. In Psalm 119:164 he said, "Seven times a day do I praise thee because of thy righteousness judgement.

Dearly beloved, the number one way to pray in times of crisis is to first of all realize that there are levels to spiritual warfare. You must first assess the one that you want to fight in. Is it strategic or advanced. This was what David did. To pray in times of crisis, you must pray to know the secret that is behind the crisis, and it's only God who reveals the deep and the secret things. Once you know the power behind the crisis, the next step is begin to deploy the weapons of war to tackle the crisis and get it arrested and destroyed. David prayed some terrible prayers in the Bible which are still very relevant today. He spoke to God in Psalm 35 to plead his cause with those that strive with him and fight against them that fight against him.

Praying in the time of crisis, you must know who the enemy is. What he's doing against you and the kind of weapons so that you can counter it and return his evil back. Prayer in times of crisis must with be serious bombardment and consistency. Prayer in times of crisis are not prayers that you pray and give up or get tired of; you must be consistent until total victory is won.

Choosing to be happy is a powerful decision that can transform our lives. Happiness doesn't depend on our circumstances but on our attitude and mindset. On this World Laughter Day, let us reflect on the importance of joy and laughter in our lives.

I recall the story of Ade, a man who faced numerous challenges, including financial difficulties and health issues. Despite these hardships, Ade chose to focus on the positives in his life. He found joy in the little things, such as spending time with his family and enjoying the beauty of nature. His infectious laughter and positive attitude inspired those around him. Ade's story reminds us that happiness is a choice, and we can find joy even in the midst of trials.

Similarly, there's the story of Nneka, a woman who lost her job during a company downsizing. Instead of succumbing to despair, Nneka chose to trust in God and maintain a joyful heart. She used the opportunity to develop new skills and eventually started her own business. Nneka's resilience and joyful spirit were a testament to her faith and determination. Her story encourages us to choose happiness and trust in God's plan, even when faced with setbacks.

God's word reminds us of the importance of joy and laughter. Proverbs 17:22 says, "A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones." Laughter and joy have healing properties and can uplift our spirits. Psalm 126:2 also emphasizes the power of laughter: "Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, 'The Lord has done great things for them." By choosing to be happy, we reflect God's goodness and attract His blessings.

Philippians 4:4 encourages us to "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!" As we celebrate World Laughter Day, let us choose joy and make it a daily practice. Remember, happiness is not a destination but a journey. By maintaining a positive attitude and trusting in God's promises, we can experience true joy and fulfilment.
