[10] And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored to you, and you shall be clean.”
[11] But Naaman became furious, and went away and said, “Indeed, I said to myself, ‘He will surely come out to me, and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, and wave his hand over the place, and heal the leprosy.’
[12] Are not the Abanah and the Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be clean?” So he turned and went away in a rage.
[13] And his servants came near and spoke to him, and said, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do something great, would you not have done it? How much more then, when he says to you, ‘Wash, and be clean’?”

God can decide to visit a man at any time, any how He wants it. Therefore, it is not in man to choose how he/she wants to be visited by God. Sometimes, we try to box God to a corner on how we want it done. Naaman went to God's Prophet to be healed; he also wanted to choose his method of healing. He already had a pre-conceived mindset of how the healing process should go. Probably because he had seen a particular method work for others, he thought that would always be the method.

In his case, Elisha did not even bother to come out to see who he was. He just sent an instruction to Naaman to go and wash in the Jordan river and that's all. But to Naaman, that was too simple. In the real sense, Naaman was expecting something costlier and more rigorous like fire prayers, days of fasting, etc. This is the case with many people; they don't believe they can be visited by simply obeying simple instructions or partaking in simple activities like praise and worship, listening to other people's testimonies, dancing, giving, clapping, etc. They always believe that miracles can only come through rigorous activities like fasting, going to mountains to pray, etc. If it will not make them sweat, to them, it cannot bring a miracle. Some don't even appear in church until it is time for only fire prayers, ignoring other aspects of the church service and forgetting that God can even choose to pay a visit during opening prayers.

Beloved, it is true that for certain battles in life, a bit of rigour must be engaged. For such, fasting, deep prayers and even waiting upon the Lord may be required. But for others, it could just be a "wash and be clean" kind of instruction that is needed. "And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?"

[8] The centurion answered and said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed.
[9] For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

It takes a man that takes his job seriously to be recommended in high places. Naaman was a man that took his job serious. He was hardworking and skilful in his endeavour such that by him the Lord had given deliverance unto Syria (2 Kings 5:). In verse 5, when the King of Syria (Naaman's boss) heard that there was a prophet in Samaria that could heal Naaman, he did not waste time before he sent a letter to recommend Naaman for healing. For a boss to recommend his subject or subordinate for something great, such subordinate must have shown himself worthwhile.

Even though Naaman was a leper, he didn't excuse himself from work. Rather, he still went to war to fight battles for his nation. He didn't because of his disability, start begging by the roadside. He would have been justified to do as a leper, but Naaman chose the more noble way. No wonder, the Bible refers to him as an honourable man. He chose the dignity of labour and he was very diligent at it. This is why I think he was not sacked because as a leprous person in the Old Testament, he was supposed to be ostracized from the community of other people. He was diligent at his work, so he couldn't be dismissed and replaced. He was so hardworking that he rose to the rank of a captain and his boss quickly gave him a recommendation letter when he needed it.

The story of the centurion's servant in Matthew 8:6-13 corroborates the story of work ethics of Naaman. For a whole centurion to leave his busy schedule and be running around looking for the solution to the problem of his servant must be that that servant was a treasure to him. He must have been serving the centurion so well that the centurion could not afford to lose him.

Beloved, if you are to require a letter of recommendation today, with the way you are handling your work, would you be recommended? Would your boss or organization be willing to go out of their way to retain you, with the way you attend to your duties? What would be said of you when you leave or retire from your organization? Let's reflect and ponder on these.

Another lesson to learn from Naaman is that God brings people into our lives for certain reasons. Known to God are all His work from the beginning. God had arranged it that a little slave girl would be instrumental to the healing of Naaman. The Hebrew girl had been captured by the Syrian army and was coincidentally posted to Naaman's house as a maid.

One thing that strikes me is the ease with which this little slave girl could open up and speak with her mistress. This shows that her mistress (Naaman's wife) must have been a very good woman to her. Naaman too must have been good to this girl for her to be able to relate well with them. Beloved, there is no gain in being wicked, especially to fellow men. Be good to people around you; they may be your saving grace tomorrow.

Secondly, Naaman was a man that listened and never looked down on anyone. He understood that his help could come from anyone. When the little slave girl brought the idea of him seeing the Prophet in Samaria, the speed with which he acted on her words was thrilling. He didn't shelve her words aside as if they meant nothing. We saw this too in his relationship with his other servants. He listened not only to superiors but also to subordinates. Herein lies the question for you and me:Do you have people you cannot relate to because of their status? What if the age-long miracle you have been looking for is in the hand of someone you feel is less ranked than you?

Beloved, it is a very small world, and you never can tell who God will use as instrument to your breakthrough. No one is useless as far as God is concerned. There are some people in church that can never listen to sermon if it is not their favourite pastor that is preaching. Some pastors cannot sit down to learn from other ministers of God. If they are not the ones preaching, no one else has the word of life. Your deliverance can come from any angle. Angels sometimes don't wear gold and feathers. Your divine helper may not come in the form you are expecting. Some have maltreated their angels to their detriment. Beware!

Another lesson to learn from the life of Naaman is that God is sovereign and He is the lifter of men. Our Fire Scripture says in 2Kings 5:1 that......by him the LORD had given deliverance unto Syria. It means that whatever Naaman had achieved in life and career was by the making of God. No man can receive anything except it is given to him from above. God is the giver of all things we can ever think of acquiring. This is why we must be wise enough to always acknowledge Him in all our endeavours and give Him the glory due unto His name.

Nebuchadnezzar learnt this in a hard way. He thought that the Babylonian empire was built by his prowess and the might of his power. He never retained God in his knowledge and God had to teach him a lesson. He was driven from among men to live among animals until he realized that it is God that rules in the affairs of men. Herod also had his own tale too. Unfortunately, he didn't live to tell the story. He was slapped by an Angel of God and was immediately eaten up by worm. Why? He gave not God the glory.... (Acts 12:22-23). The designer of the Titanic was said to have made a boastful statement that "Not even God can sink the Titanic" but what happened? The ship sank in its maiden voyage after hitting an iceberg. It is a tragedy when the creature is challenging the Creator.

God, without man, is still God. But man, without God is absolutely nothing. Some people proudly boasted that they did not need God to survive but a lot of them ended on a miserable note. The earlier we acknowledge that we are nothing without God, the smoother life will go for us.

Has God been faithful to you in your life's journey? Have you been blessed with an enviable life: good job, good spouse, good home, good health, protection, provision and safety? And you think it's all by your making? You must be joking. Have you thought of people that are more qualified than you but have been messed up by the enemy? Except the Lord builds the house, they labour in vain that build it.

In the next few days, we will be drawing lessons from the life of Naaman, one of the finest characters in the Bible. Who was he and what can we learn from him?

Naaman was a general commander of the Syrian Army held in high esteem because through him, Syria had won many wars. The Scripture describes him as a great, honourable and mighty man of valour. What an amazing credential!

However, despite Naaman's enviable credentials, he had a 'but' in his life. Something that stained his royalty. Something that normally brings him to an emotional valley. He was a leper. No matter how high he feels about himself and achievements, once the thought of being a leper crosses his mind, his spirit comes right down. Leprosy in Bible times was a very deadly disease. It causes the nerves in the body to rot and deteriorate while the carrier is still living, and it has no cure. In those days, leprosy was said to be contagious and so, lepers were not allowed among normal human beings. They lived a secluded life until death. It was a horrible, humiliating, slow and painful way to die. Whatever is true of leprosy, Naaman, in all his glory, realized how vulnerable, fallible and mortal he was. Although he was still in active duty, he knew that his days were numbered. He knew his death sentence was suspended for as long as the disease would ravage his body. Although Naaman was a wealthy and influential man, his wealth could not buy health for him.

A 'but' is any negative thing that occurs to rubbish someone's good deeds. The Bible calls it 'little foxes that spoil the vine'. They are the tares among the wheat of people's destinies. They are planted to rubbish people's existence. Whenever the enemy spots someone with a glorious destiny, he wastes no time to plant a 'but' that will distract the person from fulfilling the destiny. It could be sickness, bad luck, disfavour, lack of helpers, near-success syndrome, addiction, a particular sin, etc. But whatever it is that is a 'but' in your life, I want to assure you, that heaven will destroy it today, in the name of Jesus. Amen!

Shedding innocent blood means killing people who don't deserve to die. God hates it. Unfortunately, there are many instances of shedding innocent blood in the world today. However, its prevalence doesn't make it acceptable in the sight of God.

Shedding of innocent blood can take different forms. If people are killed because they believe in Jesus, innocent blood has been shed. Also, some wicked governments kill individuals who have opposing views, thus, shedding innocent blood.

Abortion is another common form of shedding innocent blood. When a lady decides to terminate a pregnancy because she doesn't want it, she is shedding innocent blood. These days, it's common to hear people talk about the rights of a woman over her own body. However, the truth remains that you do not own yourself, whether you're a man or a woman. Everyone will give account to God about the way they lived their lives and used their bodies while on earth. And God is definitely not pleased with abortion. Anyone who is involved in aborting a baby be it the woman, the man responsible for the pregnancy, the doctor or practitioner who carries out the procedure - is guilty of shedding innocent blood.

If you are a contractor and you refuse to buy proper materials, you will be guilty of shedding blood if people lose their lives as a result of your carelessness. If, as a nurse, your patients lose their lives because of your lackadaisical attitude, you are guilty of shedding blood. Any action on your part that leads to the death of innocent people makes you guilty in the sight of God. Scripture makes it clear that God hates shedding innocent blood. Anyone who is involved in this sin would be severely punished by God.

Beloved, check yourself today. Is there any area of your life in which you are guilty? Have you directly or indirectly shed blood? Repent and come to the Lord for mercy and let the blood of Jesus speak for you. God bless you, in Jesus' name.

Acts 5:1-11
[1] But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession.
[2] And he kept back part of the proceeds, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
[3] But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself?
[4] While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.”
[5] Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and breathed his last. So great fear came upon all those who heard these things.
[6] And the young men arose and wrapped him up, carried him out, and buried him.
[7] Now it was about three hours later when his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.
[8] And Peter answered her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for so much?” She said, “Yes, for so much.”
[9] Then Peter said to her, “How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.”
[10] Then immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. And the young men came in and found her dead, and carrying her out, buried her by her husband.
[11] So great fear came upon all the church and upon all who heard these things.

MFM Daily Devotional Message Tuesday, 18th August, 2026.

Lying is another sin that God hates. John 8:44 reveals that lying is a characteristic of the devil who is the father of lies. All liars are children of the devil. Lying simply means not telling the truth or telling a half truth. It also involves projecting a false image.

As much as people of the world try to normalise lying, God's standard remains the same. All lying is sin. You may tell yourself that you applied wisdom, or that you were diplomatic. It's all one and the same thing. The sin of lying is what landed Ananias and Sapphira in an early grave. They thought they were smart just like many people today erroneously think. Unfortunately for them, they lost their lives.

Lying is not limited to verbal untruths. A person can live a lie, in which case everything about such a person is false. There are people who pretend to be rich just to earn human validation. Those are liars. All those who are living fake lives are students in the school of lying. The ones who present a false image of themselves on social media in order to please known or unknown people are also enrolled in the school of lying. All attempts to hide, cover or twist the truth are equal to lies.

Beloved, we are still in the period of grace. There is still room to repent and return to your Father in heaven. The devil, whom you serve by lying, has nothing to offer you except eternal condemnation. You may think you are smart or that you have escaped punishment temporarily, but what of the eternal punishment? I advise you to follow the example of Moses who chose to suffer with the people of God rather than enjoy the pleasures of Egypt. If you fall into sin, it is better you confess and ask for forgiveness rather than lie and escape temporarily. Better still, ask God for grace to always do things right so that you don't find yourself in a situation where you have to tell a lie. May the Lord help you, in Jesus' name.

Pride is the oldest sin, the sin that repulses God. The devil lifted himself up in pride, attempting to be like God. The result is that he was cast out of heaven. Pride is such a terrible sin; anyone who is proud is a disciple of the devil.

What exactly is pride? Pride refers to an over bloated sense of self-esteem, a feeling that one is better than others, arrogance. A proud person thinks of himself or herself more highly than he or she ought to. He or she thinks that other people are unimportant and that he or she is the only one that matters. Pride manifests itself both in subtle and open ways. For example, if you enter a room and get offended because you are not acknowledged, it's a sign of pride. If you refuse to relate with other people because you think they are beneath you, it's a sign of pride, Refusing to ask for help for fear of being mocked is a sign of pride. False humility is pride. Exalting yourself above others, whether verbally or inwardly, is a sign of pride. Inwardly or outwardly praising yourself rather than giving glory to God is a sign of pride. Refusing to pray is a sign of pride. Elevating your will above God's plans and purposes is equally pride.

James 4:6 says that "God resists the proud" while Proverbs 16:18 says that "Pride goes before destruction." The stand of scripture on the issue of pride is quite clear from these verses. God hates pride and no proud person can abide in His presence. If you are proud, God Himself fights you. Now, if God is the one fighting against you, who will deliver you?

Beloved, ask the Holy Spirit to examine your heart for any form of pride. No proud person can receive the help of God or abide in His Presence. If you are guilty of this sin, run to God in repentance today. Ask Him to purge your heart of every impurity and baptise you with the spirit of humility. Remember, pride will bring you down while humility will exalt you.

[11] And Israel said to Joseph, “I had not thought to see your face; but in fact, God has also shown me your offspring!”
[12] So Joseph brought them from beside his knees, and he bowed down with his face to the earth.
[13] And Joseph took them both, Ephraim with his right hand toward Israel’s left hand, and Manasseh with his left hand toward Israel’s right hand, and brought them near him.
[14] Then Israel stretched out his right hand and laid it on Ephraim’s head, who was the younger, and his left hand on Manasseh’s head, guiding his hands knowingly, for Manasseh was the firstborn.
[15] And he blessed Joseph, and said: “God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, The God who has fed me all my life long to this day,
[16] The Angel who has redeemed me from all evil, Bless the lads; Let my name be named upon them, And the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; And let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.”
[20] So he blessed them that day, saying, “By you Israel will bless, saying, ‘May God make you as Ephraim and as Manasseh!’ ” And thus he set Ephraim before Manasseh.
[21] Then Israel said to Joseph, “Behold, I am dying, but God will be with you and bring you back to the land of your fathers.

The next in our heroes of faith series is Jacob. Jacob was the son of Isaac and Rebekah, the one who stole his brother's birthright and obtained the blessing by deceit.

Jacob had received the blessing but he needed to be pruned. He had his first personal encounter with God as he fled from Esau (Genesis 28:10-22). Sometimes, afflictions are capable of bringing us to a place of divine encounter. Jacob would probably not have encountered God like this had he remained in his father's house. This encounter moved him to make a vow that if God would be with him, he would serve Him and give Him a tithe of everything he got. It is therefore unwise to think that tithing began under the law when tithing actually began with Abraham (Genesis 14:20).

Jacob went to stay with his uncle, Laban, where he had a series of experiences that eventually brought him to a place of brokenness and humility. After serving for a wife for seven years, Laban gave Jacob the wrong wife and made him serve for another seven years to get his rightful wife. He changed Jacob's wages ten times (Genesis 31:7). At this point, Jacob had been sufficiently broken to carry on the blessing. Genesis 32:24-30 reveals how Jacob fought with God to receive his blessing and a change of name to Israel.

Despite being the recipient of the generational blessing, he still had to fight to get into its full operation. Sometimes, trials serve to completely rid the children of God of pride and bring them into complete surrender.

By Genesis 48, Jacob had walked with God for a considerable length of time and knew His perfect will. By faith, he blessed not only the sons of Joseph, but also his own sons, concerning things to come.

From Jacob, we learn that God can work through the most unlikely individuals. He may allow His children to go through unpleasant experiences in order to prune them and perfect their faith in Him. If you are experiencing a season of pruning, ask God to help you learn the lessons quickly so that the season will be shorter. Also, stay close to God so that you do not confuse satanic activities for pruning. May the Lord perfect your faith, in Jesus' name.

Isaac, the promised son of Abraham and Sarah, grew up in the ways of the Lord. Hence, he also was listed as a hero of faith. He learnt from his father the promises of God for him and his descendants and passed the same down to his sons.

Isaac was birthed by faith and he lived his entire life by faith. This faith was then transferred to his sons such that Jacob admitted that the "Fear of Isaac" had been with him (Genesis 31:42). From childhood, Isaac had seen his father walk with God and he had inherited his father's faith. He knew how God had provided a ram to prevent Abraham from sacrificing him (Genesis 22:1-14). He had already encountered God as Jehovah Jireh through his father.

This is instructive for fathers. It is important that your children know God through you and serve Him because of your own example.

Genesis 26 provides a record of Isaac's own encounter with God. It is not enough for children to know the God of their father; they also require their own personal encounter to strengthen their faith.

Isaac walked with God. Like his father before him, he lived like a stranger, dwelling in tabernacles in the land of promise. In the time of famine, he obeyed God's instruction to remain where he was and he reaped a hundredfold harvest. He entreated the Lord for his wife, Rebekah, and God answered (Genesis 25:21).

Isaac knew and served the God of Abraham as his God. Hebrews says that Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau by faith. Even though he hadn't seen the manifestation, he believed that God would fulfil His promises to Abraham and he blessed his sons accordingly.

From Isaac, we learn that faith can be passed down a generation. There are promises that are not just for us, but for our descendants. It takes humility to recognise this and walk according to God's plan. May the Lord make us sensitive to His divine plans which are perfect, in Jesus' name.
