1 Samuel 24:1-22
1 Now it happened, when Saul had returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying, “Take note! David is in the Wilderness of En Gedi.”

2 Then Saul took three thousand chosen men from all Israel, and went to seek David and his men on the Rocks of the Wild Goats.

3 So he came to the sheepfolds by the road, where there was a cave; and Saul went in to attend to his needs. (David and his men were staying in the recesses of the cave.)

4 Then the men of David said to him, “This is the day of which the LORD said to you, ‘Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, that you may do to him as it seems good to you.’ ” And David arose and secretly cut off a corner of Saul’s robe.

5 Now it happened afterward that David’s heart troubled him because he had cut Saul’s robe.

6 And he said to his men, “The LORD forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the LORD’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the LORD.”

7 So David restrained his servants with these words, and did not allow them to rise against Saul. And Saul got up from the cave and went on his way.

8 David also arose afterward, went out of the cave, and called out to Saul, saying, “My lord the king!” And when Saul looked behind him, David stooped with his face to the earth, and bowed down.

9 And David said to Saul: “Why do you listen to the words of men who say, ‘Indeed David seeks your harm’?

10 Look, this day your eyes have seen that the LORD delivered you today into my hand in the cave, and someone urged me to kill you. But my eye spared you, and I said, ‘I will not stretch out my hand against my lord, for he is the LORD’s anointed.’

11 Moreover, my father, see! Yes, see the corner of your robe in my hand! For in that I cut off the corner of your robe, and did not kill you, know and see that there is neither evil nor rebellion in my hand, and I have not sinned against you. Yet you hunt my life to take it.

12 Let the LORD judge between you and me, and let the LORD avenge me on you. But my hand shall not be against you.

13 As the proverb of the ancients says, Wickedness proceeds from the wicked.’ But my hand shall not be against you.

14 After whom has the king of Israel come out? Whom do you pursue? A dead dog? A flea?

15 Therefore let the LORD be judge, and judge between you and me, and see and plead my case, and deliver me out of your hand.”

16 So it was, when David had finished speaking these words to Saul, that Saul said, “Is this your voice, my son David?” And Saul lifted up his voice and wept.

17 Then he said to David: “You are more righteous than I; for you have rewarded me with good, whereas I have rewarded you with evil.

18 And you have shown this day how you have dealt well with me; for when the LORD delivered me into your hand, you did not kill me.

19 For if a man finds his enemy, will he let him get away safely? Therefore may the LORD reward you with good for what you have done to me this day.

20 And now I know indeed that you shall surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in your hand.

21 Therefore swear now to me by the LORD that you will not cut off my descendants after me, and that you will not destroy my name from my father’s house.”

22 So David swore to Saul. And Saul went home, but David and his men went up to the stronghold.

David, immediately after he was anointed, received his first assignment in the palace - to play the harp to make Saul feel better. Afterwards, Saul appointed him as captain over a thousand men. Scripture records that David behaved himself wisely (1 Samuel 18:5, 14-15).

Saul began to harbour animosity towards David after he killed Goliath because Saul thought David was out to take over his kingdom. As a result, he began to actively find ways of killing David. Saul tried at least twice to pin David to the wall with the javelin in his hand but David escaped. David informed Jonathan, Saul's son, of his father's plans and his need to escape. He eventually ran away from the palace to save his life.

David went into the wilderness and became captain over a band of worthless men. They roamed the bushes because they could not enter the city for fear of Saul. One would have expected David to kill Saul who had made him a fugitive in his land. But that wasn't the case. Twice, in 1 Samuel 24 and 1 Samuel 26, David, out of loyalty, refused to kill Saul or allow his men to. He looked beyond the man's failings and still honoured the oil on his head. Even after Saul and his sons were killed in battle, David did not gloat, he genuinely mourned his master (2 Samuel 1:17-27).

Beloved, I encourage you to learn from David. First, you need to be unshakably loyal to God, then, to His people. It is possible for your pastor or your leader to offend you despite his anointing but please, allow God to be the judge and the Righteous Judge would not fail you. Do not join the group of people who speak ill of or attack men of God. Allow God to be the judge over His church. May the Lord grant you understanding, in Jesus' name.

For believers, wherever they find themselves, serving the Lord does not start and end with just the work of the ministry or worship that we do in the church or church activities. It can be as simple as doing your job or business, helping a neighbour, or taking care of your family. When you approach these tasks with a mindset of joy and gratitude, you are serving the Lord with gladness. Every time you face a mundane or challenging task, you can say to yourself, "This is an opportunity to serve God." It is about having a heart of worship in the everyday moments, not just during formal church services. It is about being grateful to God for giving you the grace and opportunity to add some value wherever you are.

Our Fire Scripture says whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not just for your boss or leader, since you know that you will receive a reward from the Lord for everything you do. Remember, the Bible says in Romans 14:12: "So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God." It means that everyone will be held accountable to God for their actions and decisions, no matter where and how. This passage is emphasising the kind of attitude with which we should serve: wholeheartedly, as if we are serving the Lord directly, not just people. Therefore, we need to turn the ordinary moments of our day into acts of joyful service to God. For example, while cooking dinner or working in your office, you have to serve with joy instead of seeing these activities as household or administrative chores. You need a heart of joy to serve faithfully and successfully anywhere and in any capacity to please God and be blessed by Him.

As believers, we are often taught about stewardship, but when it comes to financial stewardship, more caution is required. The stakes are higher because of the tendency to begin to view it as a personal asset. Scripture reminds us that everything we own, including money, belongs to God. While we trust God as our provider, biblical wisdom dictates planning for the future and saving responsibly. Proverbs 21:20 says, "There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up." It means that the wise manage their wealth well, but fools squander theirs. Joseph in Egypt (Genesis 41) is a powerful example; he saved during years of plenty to survive the famine. And God used him to preserve nations in the time of famine.

Honesty and integrity in financial dealings is another hallmark of good stewardship. God expects His people to conduct all financial matters, be it business, personal, or ministry, with integrity. A good steward must be transparent in all his financial dealings. Luke 16:10 says, "He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much." Financial faithfulness in small matters shows your spiritual maturity and can lead to greater responsibility.

Trusting God as your provider shows your worth as a steward. True financial stewardship begins and ends with trusting God, not riches for security and provision (Philippians 4:19). Matthew 6:33 affirms that when we prioritise the kingdom of God and His righteousness, every other thing will be given to us as well. Let us be faithful stewards, generous in giving, wise in spending, prayerful in planning, and honest in all dealings so that God may be glorified through financial stewardship.

18 But he who had received one went and dug in the ground, and hid his lord’s money.

19 After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them.

20 “So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.’

21 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’

25 And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.’

26 “But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed.

27 So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest.

28 So take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents.

29 For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.

Financial stewardship is about managing God's resources in a way that furthers His kingdom and blesses others. In the Parable of the Talents, Jesus teaches that faithful servants are those who wisely invest and multiply what they were entrusted with, and they are handsomely rewarded. God desires us to use our resources wisely, to invest in His kingdom, and to care for others. A godly steward does not just give out of abundance but also out of love and obedience. The Bible teaches that everything we have belongs to God, and we are stewards (managers), not owners. Psalm 24:1 clearly states: "The earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein." We are not owners but stewards, caretakers. This truth of the Scripture should determine how we view money, wealth, giving, saving, and spending. A faithful steward manages money with integrity, purpose, and a heart aligned with God's kingdom.

The Bible gives clear guidance on how to handle our finances:

Stewardship includes generous and cheerful giving to support God's work and meet the needs of others. Giving breaks the power of greed and keeps our hearts fixed on heaven. Malachi 3: 10 instructs us to bring our tithes and offerings into the storehouse that there may be food in the house of God, and 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 encourages us to sow bountifully, for God loves a cheerful giver. Therefore, giving for showmanship does not reflect godly stewardship but pride and wastefulness.

We must also avoid debt and live within our means. The Bible cautions against debt, not because borrowing is always a sin, but because it can bring bondage. Proverbs 22:7 says that the borrower is a slave to the lender. Wise stewards plan, budget, and make sacrifices to live within their means, honouring God with financial discipline.

The last pre-requisite or condition for answered prayers that we shall look at today is forgiveness. Even though the subject is quiet inexhaustive, we will stop here today. The issue of forgiveness can never be over emphasized, Jesus taught about it and even showed example by dying on the cross of Calvary. With all that was done against Him, He still had the grace to ask the Father to forgive those who nailed Him to the cross, and humanity in general. Forgiveness is very important, if you will receive anything from God.

Deary beloved, in the Fire Scripture for today, Peter asked Jesus (v21), "How oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him 7 till seven times?" (vs 22). Jesus said unto him, "I say not unto thee, until seven times: but, until seventy-times seven."

You must forgive your fellow man that offends you four hundred and ninety times in a day. It is a capital NO! The lesson Jesus wants to pass across here is that you must show love at every step. Do to others what you would want them to do to you.

If your neighbour offends you, you must forgive without taking offence because Jesus also paid the ultimate price for you and me. Despite that, we still make Him sad by the way and manner we live our lives. We keep malice, just because we are offended. To receive answers to our prayers, we must be forgiving in all area of our lives.

We must, as a matter of fact, not dwell on people's offences. We must realize that whatever anyone does against us is done at their own level of understanding, and the Bible says, you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free. Forgive and let God visit you.

13 And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’

We still want to examine further another pre-requisite for answered prayers. We started this message three days ago. The pre-requisite we are looking at today has to do with humility in the place of prayer. Beloved, coming to God in prayer requires you to come as a child comes to the father or mother to make a request. If a child comes to the parents with arms at akimbo, voice raised in a commanding tone making a request, the parents will never acknowledge such a child. In fact such a child will incur the wrath of his parents further.

In the Fire Scripture for today, two people went to the temple to pray. The first one, the Pharisee, was full of himself and was justifying himself in prayers as if he was the one that was going to answer the prayers by himself. He, in the place of prayer was calling the other one names, and he was telling God that he fasts twice in the week and how he is paying tithes, he was talking as if the fasting was for God and that tithes had been put in God's hands.

But the other man, the Publican did not even as much as lift up his face to heaven. He had already condemned himself in the place of prayers. You must recognize your place. You are the less and the less comes to the greater for blessings. You can't come to the one that is greater than you and you begin to form bigness.

Hannah faced provocation in the place of prayer but was humble enough to go out of the place of prayers with a long-time awaited miracle. God can do same for you; be humble enough to receive your miracles.

MFM Daily Devotional Message Wednesday, 22nd April, 2026.
This topic we started yesterday is a very crucial subject that can reduce our sweat when we come to the place of prayer. The second pre-requisite for answered prayers, faith, is what we want to take a look at today. From the Fire Scripture, we read about a centurion whose servant was sick at home and he wanted Jesus' help to heal the servant. Jesus said unto him, "I will come and heal him." Then the centurion answered and said, "Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed."

Before we go on with the story of the centurion, let us look at what faith is. Hebrews 11:1 says "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." The Bible says further in verse 2 that, "By faith the elders obtained a good report." Faith is the substance of things hoped for. The centurion had been following the ministry journey of Jesus and when it was time for him to tap into the miracle working power of Jesus, he did the unthinkable. Jesus wanted to come to his house, but he said, He was not worthy that Jesus should come to his house, but should speak the word and miracle would happen.

Dearly beloved, Jesus commented on this act of the centurion. He said that he had never found so great faith, not in Isreal. Faith is a pre-requisite for answered prayers. You want anything from God? You will have to exercise your faith. Faith is like a magnet that attracts that thing you want from God to you.

The woman with the issue of blood exercised the same faith like that of the Centurion, she had spent all the money she had, but didn't get healed. No relative was there to help her because she was smelling. Anywhere she went people were repulsed because of the odour of her body: She preached to herself, saying, "If I may but touch the hem of his garments: (Matthew 9:20). That was all the woman needed to do. She preached to herself. Beloved, how long have you been asking for that one thing and yet you couldn't exercise faith to get it? God wants you to have faith so that you won't tarry long in the place of prayer.

It is the desire of the Father that His children approach Him in prayer. Prayer is the natural response of those who recognize their need for the help of God in their lives. The story in our Fire Scripture shows the persistency of a widow in getting what she needed. She was persistent, going daily to the judge to look into her case. The judge was the kind of person that had no regard for anyone; he does not fear God too.

What this story teaches is that for you to get anything done, you must be persistent. The first pre-requisite for answered prayer is PERSISTENCE. To be persistent is to tarry at the place of prayer until you receive answers. To be persistent is to be at the place of prayer until something happens. To be persistent is to receive value for waiting on the Lord. Dear beloved, the problem of many people is lack of persistence. When they pray for a short period of time, they give up very soon. They are so much in a hurry that they find it difficult to wait on the LORD for long.

The story of this widow in the story is a lesson to all believers. Don't give up without a fight. The problems that a lot of people are fighting is multidimensional in nature. May be the first day of the prayer is just removing the dust that gathered on the problem. Nothing really has started because, you only just removed the dust. The root of the problem is still intact. The tap root is also well entrenched in the ground. If you are peeling an onion ball you have to continue to peel the dry leaf off until you get to the succulent part of the onion. If you are in a hurry and not patient enough, the dry leaves of the onions will not allow you to enjoy the juicy part of it. Persistence in prayer is like that. You need to be patient with God for Him to settle you completely. He is the Alpha and Omega. He knows everything about what you are asking for in prayer.

MFM Daily Devotional Message Monday, 20th April, 2026.
We have been looking at this topic for the past two days and we want to look at another aspect of importunity in prayer. In our Fire Scripture today, there is a man who was sick of palsy and his four friends carried him, seeking for healing and solution. Fortunately, they got to where Jesus was having a revival. The place was jam packed with crowd to the extent that they couldn't gain access to the venue, but they resolved to give it everything it takes to gain access. What did they do? They removed the roof of the venue so as to gain access and they climbed up and lowered their friend into the presence of Jesus. Jesus spoke into his life and he received his healing that some hour.

Dearly beloved, it is rare to find friends like these. They decided to give it their all until their friend's problem was solved. Many people give up easily. A brother shared the story of how he prayed a particular prayer point for a year and at the end, God answered and gave him his request. He said he went back to God to ask why the simple request took that long. He said God told him that he was clearing the way, for that miracle to be permanent, and that he needed to remove some hinderances and uproot some evil elements so that he could enjoy the blessings. Since then the brother said he had renewed hope anytime he goes to the presence of God for anything at all. We need to learn from this, God does not work like a magician. He works like the mighty God that He is, a perfect God who doeth great wonders. Do not go weary. Don't give up; your miracle is close to you. God will always make perfect everything that concerns you because His mercy endureth forever (Psalm 138:8).

24 Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day.

25 Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him.

26 And He said, “Let Me go, for the day breaks.” But he said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me!”

27 So He said to him, “What is your name?” He said, “Jacob.”

28 And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.”

29 Then Jacob asked, saying, “Tell me Your name, I pray.” And He said, “Why is it that you ask about My name?” And He blessed him there.

30 So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: “For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”

31 Just as he crossed over Penuel the sun rose on him, and he limped on his hip.

MFM Daily Devotional Message Sunday, 19th April, 2026.
We continue today with the topic we started yesterday and we would look at another character in the Bible who exhibited importunity in prayer, Jacob, in our Fire Scripture today. Jacob settled his family because of what he was going to do. He knew if he did not get his breakthrough that day, Esau was going to waste him and his posterity. He sent his family over the brook and he was left alone. His stance was, if I die, I die, if I live I live. He was ready for any eventuality. The battle with the angel started at about 10pm at night and he was fighting with the desperation of a man who knew that his life and that of his entire family depended on his victory; otherwise, they were doomed. He fought with renewed strength until the breaking of the day, when the angel saw that he couldn't prevail and that he must get back to where he came from, he relaxed and asked Jacob his name (vs 27). There and then he gave Jacob a new name so that he would let him go. Dearly beloved, God is still in the business of answering prayers. Are you ready to pray until something happens? Are you ready to detain hour angel of blessings until he releases your blessings? Are you ready to receive that healing with prayers, or you just pray a few minutes or hours and leave it at that? Even when it seems that heaven is not responding, are you ready to bombard heaven still?

Dear reader of this devotional, do you have a sense of pressing need or emergency that drives the prayer? Are you bold enough to ask in confidence and faith without hesitation until you get the required results? Do you even trust God enough to continue to bombard heaven? This is what the Bible says in Isaiah 62:1 "For Zion's sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth."
