Matthew 14:22-33
[22] Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away.
[23] And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there.
[24] But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
[25] Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea.
[26] And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear.
[27] But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.”
[28] And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.”
[29] So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.
[30] But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
[31] And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
[32] And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.
[33] Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.”

MFM Daily Devotional Message Wednesday, 17th June, 2026.
The Bible counsels us to look only unto Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. We should not focus on the size of our problems nor the threatening situations around us. Obeying this divine counsel is a demonstration of faith, just like a little child who simply obeys instructions without questions.
The moment your gaze is shifted from Christ, fear sets in. If you fail to trust in Him and bother more about the challenging situation confronting you, you get distracted and losefocus. God didn’t promise us a problem-free experience as Christians. However, the promise of God in Isaiah 26:3 stands sure if you can stand by it. Your faith must be firmly rooted in Jesus Christ.
The enemy tries to take advantage of us once we get distracted. As long as Peter believed and trusted the One who had called him to come, he could walk on water; he could do that which was humanly impossible. However, immediately he shifted his gaze from Jesus, doubts took over. Jesus was no longer in charge of his mind. He “saw the contrary wind on the water.” He became afraid and began to sink. The same thing happens to us when we choose to focus on our problems rather than on Jesus; we will sink under the weight.
As Christians, we know Who we believe! With Jesus and through Him, we can overcome tough times and challenges. God is the Almighty! No knowledge of man, not even science, can define His size. That’s why a chorus goes thus: “God is bigger than all my problems, bigger than all my fears, bigger than all the mountains I can or cannot see.”
The lesson from today’s devotional is never to take our gaze away from Jesus. He is able to calm the storm of our lives. God is still in the business of working miracles. Stay than conquerors! Alleluia! steadfastly connected to God. Refuse to doubt! Don’t be distracted! Say No to fear and unbelief! Jesus remains Lord over all our challenges. In Him and through Him, we are more than conquerors!Alleluia!
